This compilation begins with the birth of John John Pott in Cheshire, England in the year 1405, and traces generations of Pott to Derbyshire, England, and on to Richard Potts and spouse Anne Ashe of Derbyshire who's son Thomas Pott traveled to the American colonies aboard the Shield in 1677. He married four times, the third spouse Anne ca. 1701 in Pennsylvania. By his second wife Joan Platts he had children Henry Potts, John Potts and Thomas Potts who all emigrated to the colonies, settling in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. In 1760 Potts familes from that area migrated to North Carolina because of the plague, and settled in Anson, Rowan and Mecklenburg counties. Later, descendants moved on to Tennessee and Kentucky. Focus in the book is centered around those descendants who settled in Maury County, Tennesse.
